Iranian foreign minister, who on Tuesday morning travelled to Türkiye at the head of a political delegation upon an invitation from his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, has met with the top Turkish diplomat.
In the meeting, the two top diplomats discussed bilateral ties between Tehran and Ankara as well as key regional and international developments.
Amir-Abdollahian described the Iran- Türkiye ties in different areas as important. He referred to the exchange of high-ranking delegations between Tehran and Ankara, underlining the need for making the most of the potentials in relations across various fields, especially within the framework of the commission of joint cooperation and the high council of relations.
Amir-Abdollahian further stressed the need to promote cooperation between the two nations in fields pertaining to water resources and Iran’s water right in Aras River. He added that Tehran and Ankara also need to continue exchanging views in relevant sectors such as environment and provincial cooperation as well as the creation of border markets as much as possible.
Other issues discussed by the two foreign ministers were mutual cooperation in the key regional developments including in the Caucasus and particularly the developments in Syria.
Amir-Abdollahian reaffirmed Iran’s principled policy to support the restoration of peace and stability in the region and between neighboring countries. He also said disputes between Türkiye and Syria can only be resolved through political means.
The top Iranian diplomat said Tehran has always put emphasis on this and it welcomes any move by the two sides to find such a solution.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu also described ties between his country and Iran as positive and noted that their cooperation must be enhanced given the determination of the high-ranking officials of Iran and Türkiye.
Cavusoglu noted that exchange of delegations at high levels between Tehran and Ankara paves the way for further boosting cooperation. He also outlined Türkiye’s views about the regional developments in the Caucasus and Syria as well as the Tehran-Ankara cooperation in this field.
